HPPSC SET Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for Assistant Professor Posts
The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) invites online applications for Assistant Professor posts through the State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026. HPPSC SET 2026 – Overview
The HPPSC State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026 is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for recruitment as Assistant Professors in Universities and Colleges of Himachal Pradesh. The test is conducted in offline mode across multiple examination centers in the state including Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Kangra (Dharamshala), Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Nahan, Una, Kullu, and Chamba. Candidates must qualify SET to be considered for Assistant Professor appointments, unless exempted under UGC guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: Master's Degree from UGC-recognized universities in relevant subjects. General candidates must have 55% marks, reserved category candidates 50% marks.
- Age Limit: No age limit for appearing in SET.
- Ph.D. Relaxation: Candidates with Ph.D. completed before 19 Sept 1991 get 5% relaxation.
- Essential: Must appear in SET in subject of post-graduation. Candidates pursuing PG or awaiting result may apply provisionally.
- Desirable: PG diploma/certificate with equivalence from AIU.
- Exemption: Ph.D. holders as per UGC 2022 regulations; SET prior to 1 June 2002 exempted from NET/SET.

Selection Process
SET consists of two papers:
- Paper I (General Awareness): 50 MCQs, 100 marks, 1 hour; tests reasoning, teaching aptitude, comprehension, and general awareness.
- Paper II (Subject Paper): 100 MCQs, 200 marks, 2 hours; tests subject knowledge covering complete syllabus of selected subject.
- Each correct answer carries 2 marks. No negative marking. Unattempted or dropped questions receive 2 marks.
- Top 6% candidates qualifying both papers declared eligible.
- Qualifying Marks: General – 40%, Reserved – 35%
- Tie-breaker: All tied candidates at cut-off are qualified.
Exam Instructions & Guidelines
- Medium of Exam: English/Hindi (except language papers, Computer Science, Environment Sciences)
- OMR sheets provided; candidates may take booklets after exam.
- No calculators, mobiles, pagers, or electronic gadgets allowed.
- No re-evaluation of OMR sheets allowed.
- Special provisions for PWD candidates: extra time, scribe if needed, prior request mandatory.
- Unfair means/misconduct leads to disqualification as per HP Prevention of Malpractices Act 1984 and HP Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2025.
- No TA/DA provided.

- Click "Apply Online" and register in "One Time Registration" system (OTRS).
- Login and select HPPSC SET 2026 advertisement.
- Fill personal, educational, and contact details.
- Upload scanned photograph, signature, matriculation certificate, Master’s marksheet, category certificate, and other required documents.
- Pay examination fee via online payment gateway.
- Preview application, submit, and download confirmation for record.
- Ensure submission before 30 January 2026 (11:59 PM). Once submitted, no changes allowed.
- Print admit card from HPPSC website before exam date and carry ID and photo to exam center.
