DRDO Young Scientist Laboratory - Artificial Intelligence (DYSL AI) is a premier research laboratory under the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). DYSL AI is focused on cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, NLP, reinforcement learning, and robotics with applications for national defense and strategic development.
The laboratory regularly engages talented researchers through Junior Research Fellowships to contribute to its advanced AI projects. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Graduate degree in professional course (B.E/B.Tech) in first division with NET/GATE, or
- Post Graduate degree in professional course (M.E/M.Tech) in first division at both Graduate and Post Graduate level, or
- Post Graduate degree in Basic Science in first division with NET qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
- Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
- Expertise in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C++, etc.).
- Knowledge of classical AI algorithms, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning techniques.
- Experience with software libraries such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, TensorRT, PyTorchMobile.
- Specialization in one of the following domains:
- Speech and language technology, NLP, Machine Translation.
- 3D Vision and SLAM, ROS.
- Computer Vision including Generative Models.
- Reinforcement Learning.
Salary / Stipend
Selected candidates will receive a stipend of ₹37,000/- per month plus HRA. Total emoluments currently approximate ₹48,100/- per month. Accommodation may be provided subject to availability, in which case HRA will be deducted.
Age Limit
- Upper age limit: 28 years as on date of interview.
- Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC candidates.

Selection Process
- Shortlisting based on GATE score or percentage in qualifying degree.
- Shortlisted candidates will appear for personal/online interview at DYSL AI Bangalore or via Video Conferencing.
General Instructions
- The fellowship is temporary and does not guarantee absorption in DRDO.
- Tenure: 2 years as JRF, followed by elevation to SRF subject to annual performance review.
- Candidates must attach proof of CGPA to percentage conversion from their university.
- DYSL AI reserves the right to modify or cancel this recruitment at any stage.
- No TA/DA for attending interview or joining.
- Candidates may register for part-time Ph.D. during fellowship tenure with approval of DYSL AI.
